It’s so tough to make a choice, because I find both cities to be must sees. For first time travelers to Italy though, I would say Venice is unmissable. The canals are world famous and it’d be a shame to miss them.
So if you could only pick one out of the two, I’d say Venice.
However, if it was a choice of which one to spend more time at? I’d recommend Florence. For Venice 1 day is perfect, or 2 if you want to visit Burano. Florence on the other hand is more relaxed and has a ton to see and eat, so you should spend more time there.
